Hi everyone. This week we had a discussion about different types of computers and storage devices. My aim was to get you all to understand what a storage device is, and all the different forms a storage device is available in. I also gave you a key piece of information.
A computer is three things. So long as it has these three things, it is a computer.
1. Input – A way to put data or information into it
2. Storage – Somewhere for the data or information to be stored
3. Output – A way for the data that has been stored, to be access or read again.
How many of the items I put out on the desk, had all of these properties?
In the second part of our session, we explored the options available to us, for those of us who have multiple users on the one computer at home. We also covered the Windows XP My Documents scheme, and brief over view of Storage counting, from Bytes, to Petabytes. Do you remember all the ***bytes in between those two?
For homework, I asked you to find out, How much RAM your home computer has, how much HDD space does your computer have, and what version of Windows XP or Vista do you have?
See you next lesson!
Remember; I put these links and resources here for your use. So if they are of no use to you, too hard to understand or you feel they are off topic, then please let me know, via any of the communication channels you have with me. I am more then happy to make changes, source better content or even create fresh content from scratch, just for you! You need only ask … nicely!
