Certificate 1 - Week 1

Actually Posted on 4th March 2008

Hi Everyone and welcome to all of you who have joined the Certificate 1 class this year. Our first session was a little bit random in regards to the activities we went through, however due to the nature of the certificate 1 course this year, it was important for me to get some understanding of where each of you are at with your own computer skills. Suffice to say I was happy to see nobody placing the actual mouse on the screen itself! Each of you had a good amount of input into the class discussion, which also shows your existing skill set.

In our first session we covered a number of different topical areas. As a resource response to this, I have provided some links below to some articles related to the topics discussed. You may also want to take a look at the “Digital Media - Week 2” post. You can look forward to actual structured articles following our future sessions.

The links above all take you to articles that can be found on Wikipedia. I could have put links to their respective websites, but you can find those in the Wikipedia articles instead. If there is a topic of discussion missing from this post (which I am pretty sure there is), please leave a comment to tell me, or let me know in our next session, so that I post some content related to it here.

Remember; I put these links and resources here for your use. So if they are of no use to you, too hard to understand or you feel they are off topic, then please let me know, via any of the communication channels you have with me. I am more then happy to make changes, source better content or even create fresh content from scratch, just for you! You need only ask …. nicely!

Digital Media - Week 1

Actually Posted on 25th February 2008

Hi Everyone and welcome to all of you who have joined the Digital Media class this year. I’m sure we are going to have a great time and learn some interesting stuff we didn’t know before hand (myself included!).

My sincere apologies for not having the notes / resources available here earlier, as I said I would. I know that some of you would have appreciated a chance to go over what we covered in class, at home. As noted in my introductory post, I have not created fresh brand new notes for you. Rather I have made available to you, the entire help and tutorial manual for Photoshop CS. For now, I will link directly to the sections related to what we have covered in class. If the help and tutorial documentation is not up to scratch, I will create brand new notes more specific to what we are doing in class.

Below is a link to download Paint.Net (pronounced “Paint Dot Net”). This program is like Photoshop in many ways, but will cost you absolutely nothing! I shall try to incorporate Paint.Net into our future lessons.

Paint.Net. This link will open a new window. When the new window finishes loading, click the link on the right hand side, at the top of the page, underneath the heading “Download Now!
